Hi, nice to meet you!
I’m Naomi. I’m a freelance writer, poet, and digital media professional based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I run The Good Egg Project. Welcome to our first newsletter!

I’ve been writing professionally since 2019 and performing my work since 2021. I started out at Time Out Beijing and have gone on to work with organisations and businesses including The Spit it Out Project, little living room, I Am Loud Productions and Different Kind.
The Good Egg Project helps me connect with other writers and creatives. This is a space for people writing for the love of it, using words for catharsis, or making a living with their work.
What is The Good Egg Project?
The Good Egg Project is a community for writers by writers, with regular writing groups in Edinburgh, including The Chicken Coop Writing Group at Lost in Leith Bar & Fermentaria.
I’ve been running The Good Egg Project since 2022, when I started writing with friends at Out of the Blue Drill Hall.
Back then, we didn’t have a name, but I needed a way to keep myself accountable. Luckily, so did a bunch of other people. That’s why I’m still running regular writing groups, and sharing resources, open calls and opportunities with the Good Egg community on and offline.
At the end of 2023, I began hatching plans with Lost in Leith’s events coordinator, Glo Black, for a new writing group for writers of all levels and genres. And that’s how The Chicken Coop was born in January 2024.
What does The Good Egg Project do?
This community exists because writing doesn’t have to be lonely - or super competitive - it can be a way to grow, learn and build the career you want.
When I first started writing in the UK, I met a few writers and freelancers who were kind enough to share their knowledge and insights with me.
Thanks to their help, I’ve made a career out of writing, both commercially and creatively.
In the hope of paying this kindness forward, The Good Egg community is here to help you achieve your goals. From learning what flash fiction is to making sure you’re being paid fair rates, the Good Egg community is here to point you in the right direction to get what you want from your writing practice.
What can you egg-pect from the Good Egg newsletter?
The newsletter is going to be a semi-regular thing (at least twice a month - but bear with me, we’re just getting started!)
It’ll be packed with opportunities to connect with the Good Egg community online and in real life. I’ll also be sharing resources, prompts, open calls and activities to help you on your writing journey.
For now, our next chance to meet in real life is fast approaching…
Join me and our fabulous community on March 26 from 6-8 pm for The Chicken Coop Writing Group at Lost in Leith Bar & Fermentaria. We’ll be undertaking some dreamy, earthy activities to get everyone in the mood for Spring!
The group is open to writers of all levels and genres with all supplies provided. To keep things accessible, The Chicken Coop is pay-what-you-can with a minimum suggested donation of £3.
You can sign up for our March group via this Google form.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more information about subscriptions and what paid membership means (how about access to the Good Egg Discord?!) and exciting exclusives I’m not ready to talk about yet!
Keep your eyes peeled for more ways to support the Good Egg community soon.
Community guidelines
The Good Egg Project is a queer-run community which welcomes people from all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ people, Black and people of colour, low and no income individuals, Disabled people, and people with mental health conditions.
The community doesn’t tolerate discrimination of any form.
Where my knowledge or understanding is limited, I’ll seek appropriate channels to learn and adapt the community guidelines and practices to meet the needs of all community members as best I can.
Before I go…
I wanted to share a task from February’s Chicken Coop inspired by The Life of Sharks. The comic made me laugh a bunch and the writers showed a level of creativity and enthusiasm that makes this one of my all-time favourite writing activities I’ve done to date!
If you’d like to share your work with the Good Egg community in future newsletters (or get some fresh eyes on your words), you can submit your writing here for feedback.
Thanks for reading! I’ll see you again soon!
Have a great week,
Naomi
