It's almost showtime for The Inkubator
Meet (more) Inkubator writers and grab your early-bird tickets while you still can!
Hi everyone!
The newsletter has been active lately, and (while I’m sorry for the spam) it’s been lovely to shine a light on The Inkubator writers who are currently hard at work editing their words and practicing their pieces ahead of the showcase on Tuesday at our home Lost in Leith.
It’s been so much fun to get to know these writers and to find my writerly joy again over April! And none of that would’ve been possible without the curiosity and kindness of this community and The Inkubator writers.
It was eye-opening to be asked about things I haven’t thought about in a while, like what is a scratch night* or where can I perform in Edinburgh.
*to be revisited at a later date.
I love when people ask questions that I’ve taken for granted, it’s incredibly grounding and a lovely reminder that we all need to revisit the basics every now and then!
A lot of great writing has come out of the course and I’m so happy that our writers have built up their confidence to the point where they’re ready to share their work with other people. Whether they’re reading their words at writing groups and workshops or taking to the mic.
I’m so proud of everyone who’s joined the course and the Coop since January.
Without further delay though, let’s meet the next batch of people joining us for the showcase.
Meet (the rest of) our writers!
This lovely flock have been working hard writing, editing and practicing for the whole of April and they are ready to take on the microphone!
It is a pleasure to introduce you to James Flowerdew, Florrie Evans, James Stedman and Martin Agombar.
James Flowerdew (he/him) is an artist, illustrator, writer, and more. He has several publications available and has written, performed, painted, and exhibited around Edinburgh for many years.
Florrie Evans (she/her) is a recent graduate from the University of Manchester where she studied English literature and film. She started off writing poetry and recently began writing short prose.

James Stedman (he/him) is a Leith-based poet and theatre-maker creating heartfelt work with a gently comic queer edge. His solo show Joyfully Grimm was part of the Scottish Storytelling Festival 2023. His short play ‘When I heard it on the Wind’ was part of Not So Nice Theatre’s ‘In Bloom’ evening on May 3, 2024.
Martin Agombar (he/him) lives in Edinburgh and works as a learning technologist. He writes on politics for Bylines Scotland, but enjoys the freedom that poetry and prose bring. He is also interested in painting, cinema, and the arts.
Come join James, Florrie, James, Martin and everyone else on Tuesday, May 7 for The Inkubator Showcase at Lost in Leith.
And a wee re-introduction for me!
Just in case you missed me at any point or you’re a new member of The Good Egg Project!

I’m Naomi Head (she/her). I’m a writer and poet based in Edinburgh. I write about food, community, connection, and domesticity. My poetry zine Kitchen Love is now available at bookshops across Scotland including Typewronger Books, Argonaut Books, Lighthouse Books and Good Press.
I run The Chicken Coop Writing Group at Lost in Leith on the last Tuesday of the month. I bring open-ended prompts to help writers of all genres explore their creativity and go beyond their comfort zones.
The Inkubator is my first writing course and I’ll be your host for the showcase on May 7.
Thank you for reading!
And I hope we see you next Tuesday for The Inkubator Showcase to support these lovely writers and their new writing.
Or on May 28 at The Chicken Coop Writing Group. Sign ups for May will be open soon! You can also register your interest for the June and July dates for the Coop on Facebook.
Have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend (if you celebrate) and see you soon!
